In the ancient manuscripts this work is entitled the “Wisdom of Solomon” (Greek) or the “Book of Wisdom” (Latin). It is more a book about wisdom—its benefits, nature, and role in history—than a wisdom book giving practical advice (like Proverbs and Sirach). It is an exhortation to seek wisdom and to live by it. Though never explicitly named, the one giving the exhortation is intended to be Solomon (see chaps. 6–9),
